Today was a picture-perfect day for birding; sunny, with a cool start, but warming up nicely, and no wind… and pretty much into the warbler migration. Oddly only 5 people took advantage of this trip; too bad for those that didn’t.
We started first at Capisic Park, with Orioles greeting us at the entrance. A female Orchard Oriole was seen by some, but no male.
Evergreen Cemetery was different than usual, with very few warblers (or any birds) around the pond area, which is typically a highlight. However we were treated to a small “wave” in another area that consisted of numerous Black-and White Warblers, 2 or 3 Ovenbirds, and 2 Black-throated Blue Warblers (bird of the day)… all were very well seen by most of us. Indeed, Black-and-White Warblers seemed to be everywhere, as were Catbirds. Another treat was a couple of Swainson’s Thrushes. Many of the birds we had were seen very well.
In all, we had 45 species, including 9 warblers
