The Stanton Bird Club will hold a walk this Wednesday, Aug. 19 at Pineland Farms, New Gloucester. We will meet at the regular location, the Promenade Mall (855 Lisbon St.) parking lot near Staples in Lewiston at 8am. If you prefer, meet us at Pineland a bit after 8:30 at the visitor center. There will be an optional picnic after the walk so do bring something to eat too.

We will look primarily for post-breeding resident birds and maybe early migrants. This is a fun walk. We will walk mostly gravel or paved paths but there will be some short grass walking too. We will meet even if it is drizzling, but if there is a steady rain at 7am and it is projected to continue to 10am, the walk is canceled. The walk will end around 11am with the picnic to follow but you may leave early if desired.

Please join us, all walks are free and open to anyone who likes nature, enjoys walking, and wants to see new places. We hope you will join us. For any questions, call Stan or Joan DeOrsey at 933-2266 or email [email protected].

Now we have an announcement. As some of you know, we are buying a new home at Highland Green in Topsham and expect to move in September, although we will be keeping our Monmouth home for use in the summer. This walk to Pineland is our last scheduled walk and we will not schedule any walks for this fall. So in effect this is our last walk this year, however we hope to hold at least the walk to Sabattus Pond in October dependent on weather and the ducks. We may even hold another as time evolves. I will use this mailing list to let you all know what develops, but I suspect whatever happens, I will not send anything until the Monday prior to an added walk.

For next year we really do not know what we will do but we hope to schedule summer walks again. With our new home, we will not be away as long in the winter so we may start our walks in May rather than June. I am sure we will add a number of new locations in the Brunswick area as well. This could mean establishing an alternate meeting location perhaps in Lisbon Falls or maybe Topsham when a walk is near Brunswick. But many walks will continue in the Lewiston / Auburn area too. We will just need to see what develops and I will let you all know via these emails.

We have enjoyed leading walks for many years and hope to continue. We thank you for coming and enjoying them and hope you will continue to attend whatever we do next year. If you have any ideas for changes, do let us know. And again, thank you.
