In spite of fog and dampness early, we had a great bird walk on the Papermill Trail in Lisbon. Eighteen people came and they found the birds. We had 56 species. But back to the weather, there was no rain at all, the fog lifted quickly and by 10 or 10:30 some sun came out, it even was warm.
But the birds. We started with a female Mallard being followed by 6 ducklings, and an adult Bald Eagle sitting in a tree near the parking lot. Soon after starting down the trail we found a number of Black-and-white Warblers plus one or two Palm Warblers. We had good views and were encouraged. The Spotted Sandpiper was there too. Then further along we found a Veery sitting on a low open branch just over
our heads. He stayed longer than we did but offered fabulous views. As we approached where in the past we had the Louisiana Waterthrush, we heard it singing and singing. It was on the right side of the trail, not
the river side. But we could not find it. On the way back at this same spot we hit the jackpot for warblers … Black-throated Blue, Northern Parula, Black-and-white and Yellow-rumped, all in multiple numbers, all
very close for fabulous views. And we had two Brow Creepers and likely another Veery also most cooperative. When we got back to the parking lot there was a Nashville Warbler, with more good views. I told everyone this was a normal day, but wait until next week!
