20 people gathered at the Fitzgerald Preserve in Brunswick. Weather was near perfect and the birds were very accommodating. Walking down the paved entry Lucy found two Brown Creepers, a good way to start
any walk. At the fields Field Sparrows and Eastern Towhees both sang repeatedly, and with a little effort were found to see. Later a male Indigo Bunting also sang and sang and showed off at the tops of multiple
trees. A Great Crested Flycatcher did not call repeatedly but did show off for a very brief time. The “almost bird-of-the-day” was when multiple people, me included, called a Sandhill Crane but it was really
a Great Blue Heron with his neck out stretched doing a Crane imitation…nice to see but we were disappointed!
The blueberries tasted good but were smaller and less plentiful than in years past. There was also added art work with four or more large paintings hanging high in some trees!
51 species were seen or heard, a great list. The full list of birds seen is here on eBird: https://ebird.org/checklist/S262192899.
