St. Peter’s Cemetery, Sept. 3

Written September 4, 2025 By Stan DeOrsey

A great day for birding. Eighteen of us gathered at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston under sunny skies and a light breeze. At this time of year not many birds are calling but when we looked there was movement in the bushes. Prairie Warblers attracted our attention early and repeated a few times later. A Merlin flew over us early too. As we walked the north side of the cemetery against the power line cut we turned under the lines on well worn paths. Gordon loves this area and we followed him all the way to Gulf Island Dam. More good places to see birds. The canoe carry path yielded a number of shorebirds.

Overall we ended with 51 species. Here is the eBird checklist with photos added by Dana: https://ebird.org/checklist/S271304779
