Junior Naturalist Program

You are invited to join the Junior Naturalist Club for a year of exciting wildlife discovery! We will learn about and explore the wonders of Maine ecology.
The Junior Naturalists Club is an educational outreach program, sponsored and supported by the Stanton Bird Club of Lewiston-Auburn, ME

What: The Junior Naturalists Club is an educational nature program for children in grades 2 to 6. Leaders conduct classes on a variety of natural science and environmental educational topics. Follow-up field trips in the Lewiston-Auburn area to explore natural habitats and make discoveries are part of each program. Guest speakers and special programs are frequent. The program’s goal is to help children learn about nature and help them recognize the importance of their role in protecting our natural resources in Maine.

When: Programs are held the first Tuesday of each month October through May from 6 pm to 7 pm. Field trips usually are held the following Saturday.

Where: Monthly programs are held at Sandcastle Pre-School, 72 Strawberry Ave, Lewiston, ME. Field trips frequently explore Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary in Lewiston.

Cost: $25 per child or $35 per family . Enrollment includes membership in the Stanton Bird Club. Enrollment is limited to 20 children on a first-come first serve basis.

The Stanton Bird Club is pleased to announce a new program titled “Thorncrag Nature Days”, to be offered , from July 15 – 19.  Running from 9:00 AM to Noon, the program is designed to engage students aged 6 – 12 in natural history as observed in the Thorncrag Sanctuary. Each day will focus on a different aspect, such as ponds, trees, birds, insects and the like and will include a hike and a craft activity related to the day’s topic.
Students should wear suitable clothing as they will be outside, rain or shine, every day. Each student should also pack a daily snack, as food and drink will not be provided.
The Program will consist of one class, limited to 15 students  with at least three adult instructors. Registration is $25 per student and is on a first come – first served basis.
