Trip results from the Evergreen Cemetery/Capisic Park trip, May 14
It was a more perfect day than you could ask for; the sun was shining, and the birds were singing. The only down side was that more people didn’t join us for this fantastic outing. This was undoubtedly best day for birding we will see this spring. The trip turned up an amazing 66 species, including 16 warbler species. The highlight was most likely the Cape May Warblers (yes, a pair) found in a spruce tree that was loaded with warblers. This bird is not seen all that often in Maine, and it was indeed a life bird for the trip leader.
Strangely though, we didn’t have a Yellow Warbler until we got to Capisic Park. And conspicuously absent from our tally was the Phoebe. But it was a great day nonetheless.
