Another nice day, well it wasn’t the rain that was predicted, so just as last week, the walk was entirely dry in spite of poor weather forecast. Eight people walked the Whitman Spring Trail and it was a very nice walk, not many birds, but the trail is in super condition and a great walk. The “best” birds were not seen by everyone … George found a Brown Creeper, and some saw the Eastern Wood-Pewee. We heard what we called a Ruffed Grouse fly but maybe it was something else. Unfortunately many warblers were at the tops of tall trees with terrible light, so many were missed. Those seen and heard (H) were:
Mallard
Ruffed Grouse (H – fly, fast wing beats, no drumming) but maybe not?
Common Loon
Double-crested Cormorant
Belted Kingfisher
Downy Woodpecker
Eastern Wood-Pewee
Blue Jay
American Crow
Black-capped Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
Red-breasted Nuthatch (H)
White-breasted Nuthatch
Brown Creeper
Gray Catbird
Pine Warbler, saw and one sang
Black-and-white Warbler
Song Sparrow
American Goldfinch (H)
