It was a bit cloudy but the sun slowly broke through and the temps were
nice, all in all a good morning for a bird walk. Nine people met at the
YMCA outdoor property in Auburn and we had an excellent time. Good birds
and we explored the new trail off the playing field. There was no one
special bird but all in all we has an excellent selection of birds and a
number of warblers, see comments below.
Birds seen and heard (H):
Mourning Dove
Downy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker – seen well by all
Pileated Woodpecker – seen once but heard at least 5 times, seemed to be 2
Trail’s Flycatcher – no call, either Willow or Alder Flycatcher
Red-eyed Vireo – 5+ seen well by all
Blue Jay – numerous and vocal
American Crow
Black-capped Chickadee – lots everywhere, say 20
Tufted Titmouse
Red-breasted Nuthatch – 6 perhaps
White-breasted Nuthatch – 4
Brown Creeper – seen by Gordon only, the rest of us looked
House Wren – 3 together
American Robin
Gray Catbird – 5
Cedar Waxwing – 20 in one flock
Purple Finch – 3
American Goldfinch
Song Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow – 5
Red-winged Blackbird – many in corn across Stetson Rd.
Ovenbird – 3, one or two chipped incessantly
Black-and-white Warbler – a couple called often
Common Yellowthroat – hard to see
American Redstart – 6, seen often and well
Northern Parula – 6, scattered
Chestnut-sided Warbler – 1 seen quickly
Blackpoll Warbler – only seen by Gordon but we all looked
Black-throated Green Warbler – not sure how many folks saw this
Northern Cardinal (H)
Rose-breasted Grosbeak – female seen briefly
