We had a nice walk but not ideal conditions at Alexander-Harkins in Auburn. Only 4 people showed up but the weather was certainly threatening. As we started to walk it was very overcast and looked like rain at any time. We made it past the fields / open area and well into the woods before any rain and when it did rain it was relatively light, particularly in the woods. When we got back to the cars it was blue sky and sunny!
The “best” birds were a family of House Wrens, one adult and 4 recently fledged, perhaps fledged only this morning, they were small with no tails. Then back at the cars we had a most cooperative male American Redstart. We never saw or heard a Pileated Woodpecker but we did see multiple trees with lots of recent digging.
Birds seen, or heard (H), were:
Herring Gull (at Staples)
Rock Pigeon (at Staples)
Mourning Dove (at Staples)
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Easatern Wood-Pewee (H)
Red-eyed Vireo (saw one, heard 5)
Blue Jay
American Crow
Black-capped Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse (a family with new young)
White-breasted Nuthatch
House Wren (one adult, 4 young)
Veery (H)
Hermit Thrush (H, 4?)
Gray Catbird
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler (H)
American Redstart
Ovenbird (H, 5?)
Common Yellowthroat
Eastern Towhee (H)
Song Sparrow
American Goldfinch
