Five people took a chance this morning that the incessant rain would end
and they were right. Mostly cloudy skies but relatively warm at 68 to 70
but the rain mostly held off. We had a little drizzle and one small
shower while we were in the woods then the sun came out briefly. All in
all the weather was not a problem.
    We heard a lot of birds but saw far less. It was actually a fine
morning to walk around Thorncrag. The following are the bird seen and
heard (H), but mostly heard.

Mallard – 2 flew over while we were still in the parking lot
Mourning Dove (H)
Broad-winged Hawk – 2, maybe 3. One sat in a tree on the edge of the
Woods Field.
Downy Woodpecker (H)
Pileated Woodpecker – 1 not far from the parking lot
Great Crested Flycatcher – 1
Eastern Wood-Pewee (H)
Eastern Phoebe (H)
Blue-headed Vireo (H)
Red-eyed Vireo – many heard throughout
Blue Jay
American Crow
Tree Swallow – 3 using the right box on entry to the pasture field
Black-capped Chickadee – many, nice to have
Tufted Titmouse – throughout
Red-breasted Nuthatch
White-breasted Nuthatch (H)
Brown Creeper (H), sang repeatedly and quite loud
Eastern Bluebird (H) in Woods Field
Hermit Thrush (H) – only one heard and only thrush (except Robin)
American Robin (H)
Gray Catbird (H)
American Goldfinch (H)
Chipping Sparrow (H)
Song Sparrow
Ovenbird (H), numerous
Black-and-white Warbler (H) at the top
Common Yellowthroat
Blackburnian Warbler (H)
Chestnut-sided Warbler (H) sang repeatedly in parking lot
Pine Warbler – many
